Switchy: technical details for van converters

Updated 9 October 2026Switchy

Switchy is a pure relay board with eight channels: four DC channels up to 30A and four AC channels up to 10A or 2300W at 230V. All channels can be controlled individually and named freely in the dashboard. This page summarises the technical details needed for planning and installation in series vehicles.

Relays and switching functions

  • 4 DC relays, each up to 30A continuous load, individually controllable, NO/NC/COM terminals
  • 4 AC relays, each up to 2300W at 230V~ or 10A, individually controllable, AC side galvanically isolated, NO/NC/COM terminals
  • Relays are pulled in with full current and then held with a PWM holding current, which significantly reduces standby consumption
  • Switching time in the range of a few milliseconds
  • Weight 453g

Important for planning: Switchy does not measure. It is a switching module. Consumption measurement per load is done by Ampy, battery and system data come via Volty or the shunt.

Mains monitoring and protection functions

  • Integrated AC check input for live, neutral and protective earth, galvanically isolated
  • Detects wiring faults such as swapped live and neutral or protective earth faults, as found on Schuko shore power connections and poorly installed campsite hook-up posts
  • Automatic shore power detection, usable as a trigger for automations, such as switching the boiler or air conditioning on and off, configurable in the dashboard
  • Faults are reported on the SmartKnob and in the dashboard, and in a critical case all AC channels are switched off automatically

Motor control

  • Direct control of lift beds and other motors, both 230V AC, such as roller shutter motors, and 12V and 24V DC motors
  • Two inputs for end position detection, for example reed contacts
  • Direction lock: for lift bed motors, driving both directions at the same time is prevented electronically

Installation, connection and pairing

  • All inputs and outputs via tool-free spring terminals, no crimping needed
  • Pairing with the SmartKnob in seconds, feedback by LED and sound, status visible in the dashboard
  • Scope of delivery: 1× Switchy, 4× mounting screws, 3× two-pole pluggable spring terminal connectors (1× power supply, 2× end stop inputs)

Consumption and wireless

  • Normal operation 56mA at 12.7V, equivalent to 0.71W. With all relays pulled in 178mA, equivalent to 2.26W
  • Wireless connection to the SmartKnob reliable up to a distance of about 15m
  • Fanless and maintenance-free

Diagnostics and messages

  • Self-diagnosis with automatic reporting of communication faults, connection problems or relay faults, with automatic recovery
  • Real-time warnings and fault log in the dashboard

Safety and standards

  • Protection against overvoltage and undervoltage, reverse polarity and overtemperature, self-resetting fuses for reliable continuous operation even after a fault
  • CE compliant, tested to the relevant EMC and safety standards in an accredited external laboratory
  • Operating temperature -20°C to +80°C
  • Supply voltage 9-36V DC, so 12V and 24V electrical systems

Updates

  • Firmware updates via the dashboard
  • Wi-Fi is only activated for updates and otherwise stays switched off, which saves energy
