Connecting limit switches (pop-top roof, bed)
Switchy has 2 inputs for limit switches. With them, the motor of a lift bed, pop-top roof or slide-out stops by itself as soon as it has reached the very top or the very bottom, that is its end position.
Which switches are suitable
Usually magnetic switches are used for this, known as reed contacts. But any simple contact works that only opens and closes and does not bring its own voltage. Specialists call this volt-free (potential-free). Only a weak control signal flows through the contact, not the motor current. That is why any standard contact for low voltage is enough.
There are two types:
- Normally open (NO): the contact is normally open and closes when the end position is reached.
- Normally closed (NC): the contact is normally closed and opens when the end position is reached.
How to connect it
- Wire it: run the two wires of the contact to one of the two end position inputs on Switchy.
- Set the type: in the dashboard, set for each input whether you are using a normally open (NO) or a normally closed (NC) contact.
- Link it to the motor: use a widget in the dashboard to connect the input to the 12V or 24V channel the motor is connected to. When the mechanism reaches the end position, Switchy automatically switches off the power for this channel.
- Test: trigger the end position once by hand and check that the motor really stops.
